A Small Time Adjustment

Ok. First thing....

For those of you who received the mass email I sent out, I was not scheduled to leave July 29th as it said. It was actually supposed to say June 29th; as in next Friday.

Second thing....

I said "was" because my date of departure has changed. Due to taking forever to get my transcripts from the two wonderful Universities I was privileged to attend, I am behind in the work visa process. It will take about ten days from today so my date of departure has been pushed back to somewhere around July (yes, really July this time) 5th, 6th, or 7th. It's a little disappointing because I was ready to be leaving next Friday, but it gives me a little extra time to get things organized, visit some people/camp, and possibly earn a little extra money. I'm sure it'll be ok. What's another week in good ol' PA?

12 More Days....

I can't believe how fast it's getting here. I fly out June 29th. Probably around 7am. it's a little over 19 hours of flying (if there's no layover) and a 13 hour time difference. Korea is actually on the other side of the International Dateline so I'll be gaining time for a while as I fly west, but eventually I'll travel far enough back in time that it'll be tomorrow. Weird.

I still need to get my transcripts from Millersville, but I'm taking care of that first thing in the morning. Then I just need to send my documents to Korea and get my Visa stuff taken care of. On that note, I'm pretty sure I have to go to the closest Korean Consulate to get my Passport stamped for my Visa. Unfortunately, the closest consulate is three and a half hours away in DC. Anyone wanna plan a day trip just before I go?

So yeah, just a few more days. I have one more week at church. Thankfully, we're having a potluck, so that's cool, and Scott and Beth decided to throw me a little going away party at the tattoo shop sometime after church. That should be a good time as well.

It's Official

I have officially accepted the offer made by the EG Language Institute located in Junggae-dong (that's in Northern Seoul). I will be flying out somewhere between June 27th and 30th. That gives me 2 weeks and possibly a couple days until I leave.

My First Job Offer

I just had my phone interview with the EG Language Institute in Junggae-dong (that's in Northern Seoul). They offered me the job, and as of now, if I accept it, I need to leave no later than June 28th. I need to talk to my recruiter and make sure that this is really the school for me. If I do take the job, I'm gonna try to squeeze and extra day or two out of them so I don't have to leave quite so fast.

The First of Many to Come

If you're reading this, you probably already know what this blog is about. Very shortly, I will be uprooting from my life in Pennsylvania, a state in which I've lived for far too long, and be moving to South Korea to teach English for a year. The plan is to take a job in Seoul; the capital of South Korea which, as stated in the title of this blog, is a mere 25 miles from the Demilitarised Zone that separates the evil, Communist, North Koreans from the wonderful, Capitalist, South Koreans (don't worry Mom. I'm only trying to make it sound intense for effect). I'm still in the application process but should know exactly where I'll be living/working by the end of this week. Then the move will follow pretty quickly....maybe in as short as a week and a half after I accept the position.

I always swore I'd never start a blog. I'm not going to turn into one of those lame emo kids complaining about how life is so hard and I can only identify with a bunch of sad, mediocre bands with black hair that covers most of one side of their faces. This site is just to keep people up to date with what's happening in my year abroad. I'm sure there will be some contemplative moments that go beyond the facts of my daily schedule because otherwise it would be pretty boring, but I vow to myself and everything holy to never, ever, EVER let this become some lame emo site.

I'll post more as I have a better idea of what's happening and when I'm leaving.
